Kinéis joins the ITU: a strategic step for European sovereignty in space IoT
Press release • June 23, 2026
Kinéis, Europe's first operator of a constellation dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT) and AIS, today announces its official membership of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as a member of the Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R).
Normative leadership for the IoT of tomorrow
Integration into SG4 places Kinéis at the heart of the critical technical decisions shaping the future of NewSpace. The stakes for Kinéis are clear:
- Securing spectrum access: protecting IoT-specific frequencies for industrial, maritime and environmental communications against interference risks linked to the densification of low Earth orbits (LEO).
- Influencing 5G NTN standards: contributing to the hybridisation of terrestrial and satellite networks to deliver universal and seamless connectivity.
- Promoting sustainable space management: supporting ITU recommendations on the preservation of the orbital environment.
The voice of France and Europe at the ITU
Backed by CNES and ANFR, Kinéis has always championed the vision of "sovereign connectivity". Faced with rapidly growing North American and Asian players, Kinéis establishes itself as the European champion capable of transforming the historical legacy of the Argos system into a global industrial standard for critical sectors (maritime, energy, transport).
" Joining SG4 is not merely an administrative step; it is an act of leadership," says Christophe Vassal, CEO of Kinéis. "At a time when industrial IoT is becoming a cornerstone of the ecological transition and global logistics, Kinéis must co-write the rules of the game alongside international regulators to guarantee reliable, energy-efficient and universally accessible connectivity."
À propos de Kinéis
Founded in 2018, Kinéis is the operator of Europe's first satellite constellation dedicated to IoT and AIS from space. It enables the global, sovereign and secure transmission of field data, including from remote areas, in order to support operational decision-making. Kinéis serves public and private stakeholders by enabling them to leverage data from assets located anywhere in the world, for use cases such as infrastructure and equipment monitoring, maritime surveillance and operations optimisation.
