Newsletter - October 2024

In recent months, Constell'actions has taken you behind the scenes of the design of our IoT-dedicated constellation leading up to the first launch.

Today, we are pleased to introduce our new newsletter: Break'in News. Each edition will immerse you in inspiring use cases, concrete solutions, and IoT news.

This month, we highlight the use cases for our satellite-based IoT connectivity for freight and Industry 4.0. With just a few days to go before our 3rd launch, dubbed ‘Ice AIS Baby’ (in reference to Kinéis' 2nd mission with IoT) our teams are ready to deploy 5 new satellites.

3RD KINEIS MISSION

The Kinéis IoT constellation continues to be deployed

The 3rd launch for the deployment of the Kinéis constellation will take place by the end of November 2024. This 3rd mission, called ‘Ice AIS Baby’ (in reference to the AIS, the constellation's 2nd mission with IoT), will carry 5 new satellites. Added to the 10 satellites already in orbit, Kinéis will then have 15 nanosatellites out of the 25 planned for its space IoT system. Operated by Rocket Lab's Electron, this 3rd dedicated launch will take place from New Zealand.

The AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a maritime system for the automatic identification of ships using VHF (Very High Frequency) radio frequencies. It enables ships and surveillance systems to know the identity, position, direction and status of ships at sea. Kinéis' satellite-based AIS (S-AIS) complements terrestrial AIS, enabling ships to be monitored worldwide, even in international waters not accessible by terrestrial AIS.

FREIGHT

Track Value, the 1st freight solution to use spatial IoT connectivity from Kinéis, revolutionizes multimodal global freight

A first at the INNOTRANS trade fair in Berlin, where the French industrial consortium between Europorte, France's leading private rail freight operator and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Getlink group, and Kerlink, a global provider of solutions dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT), presented Track Value, a revolutionary traceability and monitoring solution for all multimodal freight activities (road, rail, air and sea). This is the first industrial application dedicated to the freight and logistics sector to incorporate data transmission via Kinéis space connectivity.

"Track Value is the first operational solution with a range of uses covering most of the current needs of the freight and logistics industry. It is based on proven technologies and expertise that meet the needs of the multimodal freight market. The added value of the solution is further enhanced by the partnership with Kinéis, which provides global coverage in real time", said Raphaël Doutrebente, Chairman of Europorte.

The Track Value solution offers a reliable technological response to the main problems faced by logistics and goods transport operators and enables:

  • Real-time geolocation of wagons,
  • Predictive maintenance of wheel locks,
  • Detection of temperature variations,
  • Monitoring container security.

Benefits provided by Track Value:

  • Improved management of multimodal transport flows,
  • Improved quality and reliability of freight services,
  • Reduced maintenance costs and wagon losses.

INDUSTRIES 4.0

How Kinéis' satellite IoT connectivity meets Brazil's challenges

At the beginning of October, Ségolène Pluchet, Business Development Manager for the South American market, took part in a round table discussion at the 23rd Latin America Satellite Congress 2024 in Rio, Brazil, the largest gathering of the satellite industry in Latin America. The theme of the round table was ‘New services and entrants to the satellite market’. Experts discussed the commercial potential of the satellite IoT market and the opportunities offered by new players such as Kinéis, whose solutions are contributing to the digital transformation of industry (Industry 4.0). The future of satellite IoT in South America and beyond was also discussed during the round table. Kinéis' space connectivity for IoT responds to the various issues faced by a country like Brazil, which is subject to the constraints of its vastness, among other things.

Kinéis can provide solutions in each of the following areas:
