2ND SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH
A further step towards conquering the global IoT market.
On September 21, 2024, at 1:02 a.m. (Paris time), Rocket Lab's Electron launcher successfully put into orbit 5 new satellites in the Kinéis constellation dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT) market, bringing to 10 the number of deployed nanosatellites out of the 25 planned. Ultimately, this 1st European IoT constellation will connect any object anywhere in the world in near real-time, transmitting useful data for the applications needed to meet the challenges of our century.
CONNECTIVITY
How does Kinéis combine terrestrial and space IoT networks for customer solutions?
Attentive to the needs of the IoT market, Kinéis has developed a commercial offering called SmartSat, which provides access to global satellite connectivity (the entire surface of the earth), using off-the-shelf components. In 2022, Kinéis and STMicroelectronics, a world leader in semiconductors, signed a partnership to ensure the compatibility of their STM32WL chipset with Kinéis satellite connectivity, offering hybrid connectivity at a reduced cost.
In 2024, Kinéis and American company Semtech, a global supplier of high-performance semiconductors, LoRa® and cellular IoT systems, are making satellite connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT) more accessible by reusing standard terrestrial solutions. This complementarity provides millions of users with simple, direct access to global coverage.
Romain Marty, Product Developer Ecosystem Manager at Kinéis, took part in the “Combining networks for your IoT solutions” round table at the annual SIDO event in Lyon. The aim of these discussions with specialists from the IoT ecosystem (Anima Conseil, Tele2 IoT, Netmore Group, STMicrolelectronics) was to highlight the combination and optimization of different types of network to maximize the performance and reliability of IoT solutions, a real challenge for the connectivity of the future.
FOREST FIRES DETECTION
Kinéis' spatial connectivity revolutionizes the early detection of forest fires.
Rapidly detecting fires in remote areas: a mission made possible by Kinéis' spatial IoT. This application provides a significant solution to one of the major environmental challenges of our time.
Gas sensors from the German company Dryad Networks, a partner of Kinéis, incorporate direct transmission capabilities to the satellites in the constellation. Powered by solar energy and equipped with artificial intelligence, they detect air quality and alert the nanosatellites to any abnormal gas levels linked to a fire outbreak.
This information is then relayed to one of the 20 ground stations in the Kinéis network, which transmits the data to the end users (authorities, emergency services, companies) via a service center within a maximum of 15 minutes.
In this context, Kinéis was present at AFAC 2024 in Sydney (National Council for Fire and Emergency Services) from September 3 to 5 to present its innovative solution for the early detection of forest fires.
GROUND SEGMENT
Installation of a Kinéis ground station in the Atlantic Ocean.
Kinéis teams have installed the 16th ground station of the IoT system on the British island of Ascension, in the middle of the Southern Atlantic Ocean, between Brazil and Africa. This new GRS (Ground Remote Station) comprises 1 radome-free antenna and 2 UHF antennas deployed at the European Space Agency (ESA) site, maintained by CNES, to track launchers and satellites. Tests have demonstrated that the installed antennas are functionning properly. The Kinéis ground segment consists of 20 ground stations for receiving data from satellites and transmitting it to users. They also enable commands to be sent to connected objects.

WORLD SATELLITE BUSINESS WEEK 2024

On the occasion of World Satellite Business Week, Alexandre Tisserant, CEO of Kinéis, and Sir Peter Beck, CEO of Rocket Lab, answered questions from French and international journalists at a special press breakfast at the Hôtel Fauchon, a stone's throw from the Madeleine church. The executives discussed the solutions their companies brings to the New Space landscape and explained how they aim to become world leaders in their respective sectors.
TOULOUSE SPACE FORUM 2024
Named "Personality of the Year" by La Tribune, Alexandre Tisserant participated in the round table titled “What Place for Small Constellations?”
On September 10, 2024, the Toulouse Space Forum, organized by La Tribune at the Cité de l'espace in Toulouse, welcomed major players in the French space industry of today and tomorrow, for round-table discussions on crucial issues. For this 1st edition, Alexandre Tisserant, CEO of Kinéis, was named "Personality of the Year", alongside ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot and Hélène Huby, founder and CEO of The Exploration Company.
The head of the Toulouse-based start-up also took part in the round-table discussion titled “What place for small constellations?”, attended by Pierre Bertrand, CEO of Skynopy, Clément Galic, co-founder and CEO of UnseenLabs and Emmanuelle Méric, Managing Director of Loft Orbital.
