Newsletter - November 2024
This month, let's have a look back at Kinéis' key highlights: the successful launch of the 3rd mission, the AIS solution showcased at Euronaval, and a focus on the industrial applications of our satellite connectivity. Stay tuned for the news shaping the future of IoT and AIS connectivity!
3RD KINÉIS MISSION
Success of the 3rd Launch from New Zealand
The 3rd mission, "Ice AIS Baby", for the deployment of the Kinéis constellation took place on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 4:55 AM (Paris time), from New Zealand, using Rocket Lab's Electron launcher. Five new satellites were successfully placed into their designated orbit, with operational teams establishing contact with each one. This 3rd successful launch brings the total number of nanosatellites in operation to 15, out of the 25 planned for the Kinéis system dedicated to IoT and AIS.
AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM
In early November, Kinéis showcased its satellite connectivity system for IoT and AIS (S-AIS) at the 29th edition of Euronaval.
This renowned event, considered the largest and oldest naval exhibition in the world, gathered global leaders in naval and defense sectors in Paris, including policymakers, military officials, industry representatives, and experts exploring cutting-edge naval technologies.
Kinéis presented its satellite-based Automatic Identification System to official delegations and partners. This system complements terrestrial networks by enabling vessels and monitoring systems to identify ships' identity, position, course, and status anywhere in the world, including international waters beyond the reach of terrestrial AIS.
The Kinéis S-AIS solution delivers high performance through advanced technology and multi-antenna systems that optimize AIS signal collision management. It ensures a high detection rate of vessels, even in the most densely trafficked areas.
Users of Kinéis AIS data benefit from enhanced market coverage for accurate and reliable maritime monitoring in high-traffic areas.
Kinéis AIS applications:
• Defense & Security
• Detection of suspicious behavior – anti-spoofing feature
• Fleet & supply chain management
• Environmental protection
• Maritime data analysis

INDUSTRIAL IoT
How satellite connectivity optimizes Industrial IoT
Thanks to satellites, connected devices, and their sensors, we can now collect valuable data and leverage it in the industrial sector to monitor production systems, anticipate malfunctions, track goods transportation, and receive alerts in case of anomalies.
Kinéis' satellite IoT connectivity drives this digital revolution. With global coverage across the Earth's surface (including remote areas) and the near-real-time transmission of data collected by the constellation, it breaks down barriers of space and time, enabling the monitoring of industrial activities almost instantaneously, anywhere in the world.
With its satellite IoT connection, Kinéis contributes to the digital transformation of industry, known as Industry 4.0 or the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Based on three principles – tracking, monitoring, and alerting – Kinéis' space connectivity applications for digital industrial transformation are numerous, offering significant benefits for industrial activities:
• Predictive maintenance
• Energy management
• Environmental impact
• Resource management
• Goods transportation
CDRT ROUNDTABLE
Telecom experts converge on the potential of low Earth Orbit Satellites
On November 19, Eric Nicolas, Product & Innovation Director at Kinéis, participated in the morning event organized by the Club des Dirigeants Réseaux et Télécoms (CDRT) at the Cité de l’Espace in Toulouse, where he took part in the roundtable discussion "How to Collaborate with Satellite Operators?".
Moderated by Paul Dubois, Editor-in-Chief of ITR News, the roundtable brought together renowned experts, including Brice Jourdain, Business Development Head of BL Enterprise, Eutelsat OneWeb, and Sébastien Loste, President of Telerys Communication, Starlink partner, to explore the revolutionary potential of Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites in the telecommunications world.
Eric Nicolas highlighted Kinéis’ constellation’s capability to meet connectivity needs in areas not covered by terrestrial networks, particularly for asset tracking, activity optimization (monitoring), and risk reduction (alerting).
This satellite connectivity is set to revolutionize numerous fields such as agriculture, energy, environment, infrastructure, maritime, and transport.
